Our View on Health

At Schmitenhohe we are committed to breeding that is diverse and the aim of improving the overall heath of the breed.

Owning a dog should be a joyful experience as well as all of the generic advice that is available there are a few extra things to be aware of when with Clumber Spaniels.

With only around 200 Clumber Puppies born in the UK each year it means that the Gene Pool is quite limited this can lead to an increased risk of generic diseases such as EIC, Hip and Elbow dysplasia, eutropia and entropion being passed on. With many dogs also having a high COI we like many breeders are looking at using and importing lines form Europe and the US to insure coming generations are as genetically diverse as possible. Eventually eradicating generic problems that have begun to present themselves and reducing the overall COI of the breed.
